Failing is an important part of life and if you haven’t experienced any then you haven’t lived life fully. Failure can come in various forms and it teaches so many things. Many people don’t realize that they can make the most out of their failures and aim for higher success. We can recover from small setbacks in life but there are certain failures that make or break us in life. From getting rejected by the university of your choice to losing thousands of dollars; the scale at which you fail doesn’t represent your worth but it’s an opportunity for you to grow and learn from it.
Here are the things that you should do after you have experienced a big failure:
Don’t keep on blaming yourself
First things first, instead of sinking in the quicksand of self-pity and guilt for the rest of your life about something that you could have prevented or changed, you should just brush it off and move on. Even if it is your fault, you can’t do anything about it or go back in time. Many people live their lives with a bag full of “what ifs” or “I’m such a failure” all their life; so much so that it prevents them from trying something new or different. Don’t let your guilt or self-blame cripple you from moving forward. Accept the fact that everyone makes mistakes and nobody is perfect.
Take a break
You need to relax, take a step back and clear your mind before you start moving ahead in life. Relieving all that frustration and anxiety is crucial for your new beginning, so pick an outlet that will help you do it. This could be anything from taking a couple of days off and hanging out with your friends to going to the gym to work out. Reading a good book, listening to relaxing music, watching a funny movie or meditating are just some of the dozens of things that you can do to take your mind off things. Sign up for a class that can make you express yourself and channel out your inner feelings positively such as painting, dancing or boxing etc.
Turn your plan B into the new Plan A
When you are doing plan B, you will always remember your failed plan A and you will do it half heartedly. Turn your plan B into the new plan A because it will help you stay focused and determined. Make other plans as well, just in case if things don’t work out. Just because one approach or method didn’t work doesn’t mean you give up and not try again.
Keep on marching forward
If life punches you in the face, you don’t fall down, stay put and cry about it forever. You get back up with your chin high and take a jab back at those obstacles that keep you from reaching success. You will only fail if you don’t get back up on your feet. All the successful people in the world have experienced major failures and they only could have reached their success through all those failures.
Take lessons from this golden nugget by Rocky in the 6th movie:
“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
