Why should you go after your dreams

Imagine being really old and being nostalgic about different times of your life and thinking to yourself, “Gee I wish I would have done that, maybe my life would have been so different”. Sounds scary and sad, right? You don’t want to have lived a wasteful life and regret the things you never tried or the dreams you never fulfilled because of self doubt and regrets. If you think that your dreams are not worth pursuing, then here are some reasons why you should have that fire in the belly to go after them:

You are never too “anything” for your dreams

Don’t ever think to yourself that you are too old, poor, short, tall or (insert insecurity) for anything in life. Just because you were dealt with different cards in life does not mean you can’t aspire to do or be anything. History is filled with examples of people who swam against the stream, were nonconformists and achieved incredible things. As long as you are not hurting anyone, nobody has the right to stop you from pursuing your passions and interests.

Make it happen

Where there is a will, there is a way. You can come up with a million excuses not to do something, but if you truly want it, you will find solutions. Prioritization is key. Know what you want and go out and get it.

Don’t be afraid to fail

Failure is not something to be ashamed of, but in fact something to learn from. Thomas Edison failed hundreds of times before he made the first light bulb. Had he given up on the light bulb, people would probably be using candles today.

Ignore the naysayers and haters

There will be people in your life who will try to discourage you from following your dream or tell you that you are not good enough for it. It could be true, therefore you need to work hard to make yourself good enough for whatever it is you want to do. But don’t let their opinions cloud your judgment and make you stop from attaining your goals.

Beat your fears

It might seem daunting to pursue whatever it is you want in life, but you have to kick all your fears to the curb by not letting them control you. Our fears paralyze us until we completely stop thinking about them and stay in our comfort zone. The Wright Brothers didn’t let the fear of a plane crash stop them from taking their first flight and look at how far we have come today.

Take out time

You don’t get time, you create it. If you have a busy schedule, then you can squeeze in a little bit of time to work towards your goals. Cut back on hanging out with friends or watching Netflix, and use it for something productive.

Do what you love

Following the crowd will never bring you true happiness. You get to choose what you want to do with your life and not give in to peer or family pressure.
